Learning Objective:   When you complete this session you should be able to:  Identify fixed income securities essential for developing and managing local government investment portfolios.

Session Description:  This session will explore investing in a near-zero COVID-19 fixed-income bond market.  Our presenters will discuss the effects of the extraordinary fiscal and monetary policy response from the Federal Reserve to the COVID-19 situation on short and intermediate portfolios and the risk of exposure to corporate credit and other fixed income sectors.  Additionally, we will review investment strategies for public funds in 2020 and beyond.

Session Description:   Participants completing this session will be able to define investment risk in the context of much longer time horizons (beyond 5 years), and understand concepts such as asset-liability matching and asset allocation when managing investment portfolios for pension, other post-employment (OPEB) trusts, quasi-endowments, or in limited cases the diversification of reserve or surplus funds.
